Discovering Music, Discovering Testing

Since launch, Thrillcall’s mission has been to aid fans in concert discovery. It started with real-time alerts on local concert listings and continues with Thrillcall Exclusive Offers, which give music fans access to last minute concert tickets and perks. The goal has always been to give concert fans the best experience, so the company has been working diligently to develop Thrillcall applications for multiple devices.  And the hard work seems to be paying off, as Billboard recently named Thrillcall one of The Ten Most Interesting Startups of 2012.

“Any company with device specific apps knows the complexity of the testing matrix,” said Chad Taylor, Co-Founder of Thrillcall.

As Co-Founder and Head of Product for Thrillcall, Taylor knew the company needed to improve and broaden their testing coverage. With apps for Android, iOS, and the web - and a need for both functional and usability testing - Taylor came to the realization that Thrillcall needed numerous additional resources to complement their small in-house team of 5 engineers and 1 part-time QA professional. When Taylor stumbled upon uTest at CrowdConf in San Francisco, he knew it was the perfect solution to meet his team’s testing needs.

Thrillcall: Testing Goals and Objectives

The predictably long project on-ramp time of outsourcing or other testing methods wasn’t an option for an agile team like Thrillcall. The company needed to be able to start test cycles very quickly – and with uTest they could do just that:

“Our frequency of releases depended upon the application, but it was typically every 1-2 weeks for web apps, and 1-2 months for mobile apps,” said Taylor. “Using uTest allows us to be flexible, as test cycles can be started very quickly with immediate feedback.”

Thrillcall, like other companies that use uTest, was able to start testing almost immediately. And because uTest already has a wide-range of software testing expertise – with QA professionals from around the globe –uTest was able to find the testers in the locations with the newest devices that Thrillcall was looking for. It was the flexibility of crowdsourced software testing which enabled Taylor and his team to ramp up their testing quickly in order to meet necessary deadlines.
