Dom Wolf started his career in retail but always knew he wanted to break into IT. A few training courses and career jumps later and Dom had made testing into his permanent occupation. So when he was looking to add some extra income to his life, testing was a logical choice  - but finding the right after-hours fit proved difficult.

“I managed to stumble across a few freelancing sites, and even made a few pitches to potential clients,” Dom said. “Unfortunately, I was constantly being undercut by others. A little Googling later, and I was introduced to uTest.”

Though Dom has professional experience testing, he appreciates the fact that uTesters incorporate natural intuition as much as technical training and that the collective nature of crowdsourcing can introduce testers to techniques they haven’t used before and bugs they never would have found.

“A vast majority of people use the web every day, and instinctively know what to expect from a website, or application for that matter,” he said. “I've joined many projects late on, and seen massive lists of bugs, and considered giving up as surely, everything's been found, right? Wrong. There are always bugs which haven't been found yet. Just try something no-one else has.”

In their own words...

On Becoming a Top Tester:
It snowballs. You get noticed, and you get paid. It doesn't take long at all- providing you're having fun, building up your skills, and doing a good job.”

On Being an After-Hours uTester:
It highlights that you enjoy this form of work so much that you're happy to do it in your spare time. I think that can only be seen as a good thing from an employer's perspective.”

About Dom:
I'm passionately into art and design. I've recently got into painting again since leaving art college around 10 years ago. I try to keep in shape by running, and I've got a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. But the most important and awesome aspect of my life is being a dad to my two kids.”
