Fifteen years ago David Honeyball fell into software testing after getting a temp job in a testing department. Over the years his skills have been put to use for functional testing, website testing, automated testing, user acceptance testing and integration testing, among others. Ever looking for a new challenge, David came across uTest and found that it fit his needs perfectly.

“I first found out about the uTest community in the summer of 2009 and signed up as at the time I was looking for a fresh challenge and some extra money in my spare time outside of my normal job,” he said.

In the spirit of a good challenge, David’s favorite projects are the ones that let him be most creative when looking for bugs.

“The uTest projects I enjoy the most are those where the site is a completely new system with no known issues,” he said. “So it is like an artist with a blank canvas. In much the same way for testers this is fantastic as anything is in scope and no holds barred.”

Since 2009, David has grown within the uTest community to become a gold-rated tester, a Test Team Lead and was honored in the 2011 uTest Tester Awards – being named the top honoree and taking home the Most Valuable Tester and the Top Test Team Lead Awards.

“I have put in some long hours over the last year or two and am one of those people who are fully committed to everything I do,” David said of his commitment to uTest. “I don’t like to be beaten in anything I do and tackle challenges head on. Additionally without the support of the PMs and management team, not to mention some fantastic fellow testers I would have not go to where I am now.”

In their own words...

On Being Part of the uTest Community:
I have made so many great connections to colleagues around the globe and taken on many challenges and worked with a multitude of customers.

On Tips For New Testers:
Face the challenge head on and don’t get deflated if one project does not go well. As there will plenty more along and further ways to advance your experience and enjoyment. Relish the challenge and don’t let anything stand in your way.

About David:
Up until 3-4 years ago I was running 4 or 5 marathons a year and managed to finish 3 marathons in 2 weeks during that time which remains one of my biggest achievements – Belfast, Paris and London.
