Robert Pall has done many jobs in his life. He’s been a sound technician, a wedding videographer and, six years ago, decided to try his hand at software testing. Though he had a job as a software tester, Robert was interested in some extra work from home opportunities. At first he was afraid that uTest was too good to be true, but later learned from a friend that it’s a great way to advance your testing skills and earn some extra cash.
“At first I was reticent, I had no trust in these kind of work-at-home activities,” he said. “Then, one of my friends (a Gold rated uTester) told me about uTest. I told myself there is nothing to lose so I joined uTest.”
Since joining the uTest community in early 2012, Robert has worked his way up to a Gold tester rating. He’s accomplished this goal by focusing on the quality of his bug reports to ensure he has the best rating possible.
“I have tried to deliver high quality work,” he said. “Well documented bugs and covering as much as possible from the app under test to keep my bug approval rate as high as possible – every rejected bug is a slap in my face. 100% bug approval is the target on each test cycle. In other words, I have tried to do my best, to give the best to the customer.”
He applies these principles to each and every test cycle – whether it’s a mobile-functional test or a web-usability test. Robert enjoys working on different projects across all of uTest’s offerings to stay fresh and interested in QA.
“Testing a single area is no fun, so having mobile, web and desktop apps to test makes life beautiful,” he said. “I love all of them. Each one is different and has a different flavor. I try to enjoy all of them and treat them accordingly.”
In their own words...
On Learning from uTest:
“I read the forum all the times. Also, on every test cycle I read almost all the bugs logged by other testers. My testing perspective has changed, has improved with all the knowledge got from uTest.”
On Bug Report Quality:
“I want most of them to be ‘Very’ or ‘Exceptionally’ valuable. ‘Somewhat’ is just somewhat – nothing to be proud of.”
About Robert:
“I love taking photos and videotaping weddings. In the summer, I do it as a hobby. Also, I love driving around, taking my family on short trips.”
