With three kids at home in rural Georgia, Kayla Cox was looking for some part time work that would fit her busy lifestyle.
“There are not a lot of opportunities for good income, especially for a part time job that I would probably look for if I wanted a traditional source of income,” Kayla said. “But with uTest I’m able to earn great money and have it be on my schedule – working as much or as little as I want to.”
After discovering uTest online, Kayla decided to join the global testing community. Despite not having any formal QA training, Kayla quickly learned the basics of mobile app testing through uTest’s collection of tester resources and educational materials.
Less than two years after joining uTest, Kayla has worked her way up to being a gold rated Functional tester and a Test Team Lead. She enjoys her work and her newly acquired knowledge so much that she started spreading the uTest word to her family – ultimately encouraging her husband, brother-in-law and sister-in-law to also become uTesters.
“Now I have three more people I can talk about testing with,” Kayla said. “Before, when it was just me doing uTest, I had no one in the real world that I knew to really talk about this stuff with – it just kind of goes over your head if you don’t know what bugs are and all that. It’s great now to be able to talk to them about testing and give each other tips.”
In their own words...
On being a new tester:
“For anybody that’s interested in joining uTest or if you’re new to uTest and you’re like me and you had no experience beforehand, I would really recommend that on your first few cycles – or really, I still do it to this day - go through the other bug reports that are filed and look and see which ones get approved as exceptionally valuable.”
On the best part of testing:
“I enjoy being able to test a product for one of the big name companies that uTest works with, then later on when I’m using that app in real life, knowing that I played a part in making that app really good for the general public to use.”
About Kayla:
“I actually and my last baby a month ago and I did uTest right up until the moment I went into labor. I actually had to turn in a test case a little bit early while I was in labor!”
