Tester Spotlight

Iwona Pekala has been working in software development and testing since she interned for IBM. As a career tester she’d experienced several different work situations, including freelance opportunities. But it was uTest’s unique community and business model that that ultimately encouraged her to become a uTester.

“I decided to sign up because the model of assigning the projects was different compared to other freelancing services,” Iwona said. “I don’t need to offer the lowest price and ‘fight’ with others to get a project.”

Now that she’s in the community, Iwona enjoys putting her technical background to work for customers around the world – especially when the bugs she finds (and occasionally fixes) will have a big impact on end user experience.

“I like testing apps which will be used by a lot of people, like web browsers,” she said. “I also like test cycles which require not only clicking and tapping, but also using bits of technical knowledge. There was one test cycle in which I needed to fix automated Python script delivered by the customer so it would run properly on few more platforms.”

Though Iwona has worked for some well-known tech companies, joining uTest made her reconsider – and eventually change - her career path. She’s now embarking on a path more and more uTesters are taking.

“I decided to quit my corporate job and become a full time freelancer, and I hope uTest will be my main source of opportunities,” she said.
