Ido Naor turned his passion for “surfing the unknown” (hacking) into a full time profession. Armed with a Computer Science degree he took a job as a professional hacker for a security company and began undertaking tasks like trying to break the Facebook app of a major bank. When a friend in the uTest Community noticed security test cycles appearing on the uTest platform he recruited Ido.
“Security, this is my specialty and my addiction,” Ido said. “I have bits and bytes in my veins! Every bug is a BUG. Injections, bypassing, hijacking, exploiting... welcome to my world!”
Though he’s a specialist in his field, Ido views being a uTester as a chance to learn new techniques and collaborate with fellow testers.
“The best of what I’ve received from uTest is other testers’ knowledge,” he said. “This mind storm between testers is great, especially in security, where you need to actually think hard in order to execute a good solid bug.”
He expands this view beyond security testing and into the world of QA and continued learning in general. During the past year his dedication to the community has paid off. Ido is now a Gold Rated tester and a uMentor who leads courses in security testing. He believes all testers can achieve success if they are actively and continuously involved in every asset of the uTest community.
“First, review cycles and always read other testers’ bugs even when you're not actually participating,” Ido recommended. “Second, be a leader! Be the first to write in the cycle's forum or upload an interesting topic in the uTest forums. And last but not least, make friends with other testers and uTest PMs/ TTLs, they're great!”
