It's the ability of a tester which is to understand an application's requirement that makes him successful. This is due to the fact that this is the first step towards his way of success; and first comes first.

Its definitely not "Ability to understand an applications requirements". Developers will perfrom Unit Tests to verify whether application passes requirements. Its the tester job to break this by considering many factors which can gain through experience and in understanding the application architecture. What do you say?

If you dont have the ability to understand an application requirements, Will u be able to think of negative functionalities to break the application??? ofcourse experience adds to a good level ..it is throughout all the fields that experience makes a difference.. When comes to testing perspective.. i believe clarity of bugs and "Ability to understand an applications requirements" plays vital role..

Hi Ramana,
Going by what you mentioned "Its the tester job to break this by considering many factors which can gain through experience and in understanding the application architecture"..
Even you agree the fact that a tester must understand application architecture and I agree its very true.. and that's what exactly leads to knowing and understanding the requirements...
Testers never have enough time to test all the aspects of the system even though if he/she is aware about the application architecture completely.. that's when prioritizing highly impacted areas to be tested are determined and not the complete system,
but how do we determine what are the most highly affected areas in the sytem.. hmm that is for sure by understanding what the requirements are and also by knowing where the changes made by developer will impact the existing system most.
In my opinion understanding the application requirement is the first and foremost thing for any tester. You may not agree with me but as for me with a 4.2 years of experience in software testing understanding the requirements plays a major role in testing the application with highest quality.. :)
hey guys my first post-- one among the five is not the answer anyways , Its the ability to understand the requirements is the near answer , the tester should have the capability to think beyond the requirements and should find the application behaving not as required this comes with experience.. so one among the one may not be the answer....

Ability to understand an application's requirements
Ability to understand an application's requirements & make sure the application constraints bug free, qulity & cost.

Hi Ramana...I beg to differ,...

These five are not sufficient these all are subsets of skills
