Battle of the Social Networks
February 11 – February 17, 2009
For our second Bug Battle, uTesters evaluated three of the world's most popular social networking sites: Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn. After carefully evaluating all three applications, testers were asked to select the social network they preferred, as well as the one they would invite their friends to join.
Over the course of a week, more than 1,100 uTesters from 64 countries competed to find bugs in three of the top social media platforms: Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn. The uTest community found a combined total of 718 bugs in the platforms, with 84 of those bugs categorized as “showstoppers” in need of immediate action. Top-line results from the Q1 Bug Battle included:
- 416 uTesters evaluated Facebook and identified 243 bugs, including 14.40 percent that were classified as showstoppers.
- 399 uTesters evaluated LinkedIn and identified 250 bugs, including 9.78 percent that were classified as showstoppers.
- 304 uTesters evaluated MySpace and identified 225 bugs, including 10.80 percent that were classified as showstoppers.
When the competition concluded, each tester filled out a survey, ranking each app in terms of usability, intuitiveness and other criteria. As with previous competitions, over $3000 in prize money was awarded for:
- Top overall tester (based on quality of bugs and feedback)
- Top novice tester (same criteria)
- Top US tester
- Top bugs
- Top feedback (about the feature set, functionality and usability)
